OBJECTIVE

Building a business is hard, building a global business is even harder Sales is the life blood of business at all stages. The best product and technology is of no value unless it can be meaningfully connected to consumers.

In the 5 years we have been operating we have been approached by many entrepreneurs and organisations looking to enter the US market – most do not get out of the starting blocks. Our mission is to get more Kiwi entrepreneurs and their teams into the race. This programme is designed as a starting point for thinking about some of these key requirements around the critical areas of Sales, Marketing/Demand Generation and Product Management

We want to provide our community with a concise summary of what we have observed and some recommendations supported by interviews and presentations from companies and entrepreneurs dealing with these issues so that they can learn faster and focus on the more important elements to their business.

FORMAT

There are three key areas that we will cover over the day. 

Sales – a broad approach to the topic but focused from an overall perspective of the importance of not just sales strategy in the go to market sense but the ability to “sell” your proposition.

Demand Generation / Product Management – an overview of the importance of building funnel and ensuring focus on product / market fit

  • 15 minutes – Exploring the Kiwi Landing Pad concept
  • 30 minutes – Getting US Ready & American Etiquette
  • 90 minutes – Sales – Sales enablement, lead generation, sales process, enterprise sales. + Q & A.
  • 60 minutes – Marketing – Demand generation, marketing strategy. + Q & A.
  • 30 minutes – Product Management – Product market fit. + Q & A.
  • Community gathering/drinks

Scott Nolan – Partner – Founders Fund

Scott Nolan is a Partner at Founders Fund, where he focuses on investments in technology-driven companies across sectors including energy, biotechnology, aerospace, healthcare and advanced manufacturing.  Scott is a board member at COLLECTIVEHEALTHTACHYUSTRIBOGENICS and two other companies currently in stealth mode. Prior to Founders Fund, Scott was an early employee at SPACEX.  There, he helped develop the propulsion systems used on the Falcon 1, Falcon 9 and Dragon vehicles and was responsible for the Dragon capsule’s thermal and environmental control subsystems. After SpaceX, Scott spent time at Bain & Company working with its private equity clients and co-founded a startup building social web apps on the Facebook Connect platform.  Scott earned both a BS and MEng in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Cornell University in 4 years and received his MBA from Stanford University where he was co-president of the Entrepreneurs Club.

Ash Alhashim – Global Director Inside Sales – Optimizely

Ash Alhashim is the Global Director of Inside Sales at Optimizely, where he leads the company’s Sales and Market Development efforts. His teams work at the intersection of marketing and sales and are responsible for turning target accounts and marketing-generated leads into enterprise opportunities. Ash has 9 years of experience in sales and marketing, and worked for companies such as Clarizen and Google prior to joining Optimizely. Outside of work, Ash can be found obsessing over coffee and rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Savannah Peterson – Director of Innovation Strategy – Speck Design

Savannah Peterson is the Director of Innovation Strategy at Speck Design, where she helps companies and entrepreneurs alike develop ingenious new products. She thrives on the go-to-market journey and is a facilitation hub of ideas, resources, and engineering. Prior to joining Speck Design, Savannah was the Director of Global Community at Shapeways, the world’s largest 3D Printing community, where she empowered and enabled the over 25,000 3D Printing businesses. A true hardware nerd, Savannah has helped friends, clients, and fellow creatives raise over $4.5M through crowdfunding. Before diving head first into design, Savannah worked at Fox Sports Northwest, the Center for Communication and Civic Engagement at the University of Washington, and founded her own Social Media Marketing Agency, Savvy Marketing Seattle. She travels the world as a public speaker, most recently featured at SXSW, Silicon Beach Festival, and Gasparilla Interactive. An avid mentor for women and men in tech, she teaches digital marketing and crowdfunding at Stanford, NYU, PACE, and SUNY Oswego. Myles Sutherland – Emerging Business Manager – ESRI

Myles Sutherland, geographer, surfer, and passionate about building enterprise software and hardware products. Previously, engineering, product management, business development @ Esri and Trimble. Founded Esri Startup Program where he works with startups in exploring use of geography within their SaaS, web, and mobile products. Focused on those building universal and global services in B2G, B2B, or B2C markets. 

Myles is currently working on a startup focused on imagery and data analytics. Born and raised in Christchurch New Zealand. Now living in Manhattan Beach, California.
